Poker Chip Tricks Tutorial

When I was learning how to do tricks with my poker chips, I had a hard time finding information on the different tricks. In order to help others in the future, I’ve created a page with explanations and videos for the tricks that I know how to do. The tricks are:

  • Chip Flip (Front to Back)
  • Knuckle Roll
  • Chip Twirl
  • Shuffle

excellent videos and explanations. i am still working on the chip flip. also it is hard for me because i broke my pinky on my dominant hand a couple years ago and it has very little strength, so i need to do most of the tricks with my weak hand.

for those working on the shuffle, another way to do it is to orient the two stacks of chips north/south to how you are positioned at the table. then just reach forward like you are trying to pick up all of the chips in both stacks at once. this will put your index finger in the upper left and your middle finger in the upper right of the “north” stack. the south stack will have your ring, pinky, and thumb. the just lift and press them together. i am able to riffle large stacks with ease like this, and it is easier for me because the pinky finger doesn’t do much.

Thank you very much for the video tutorials and the explanations for each of these chip tricks. I too had been trying them on my own for weeks now, but the shuffle the and the drop-twirl are pretty tough, especially without being able to see how it’s done a few times in a row. Thanks again and I really appreciate your efforts. :)

I am just a novice player and have been happy thusfar with just having learned how to grab chips from my stack and have it be the right number– LOL– such as three for the small and six for the big bet! I looked like SUCH a dork having to count them out one by one the first several times I sat down at a table. Now that I have achieved THIS fantastic feat, I am ready to move onward and upward into bigger and better displays of wonders! (Grin).

I remember hearing Mike Sexton comment once during a WPT event when Layne or someone was doing shuffling or knuckle things with chips and he said, “If you ever sit down at a table and see some guy doing that, RUN– don’t walk– to the nearest exit.” LOL. The next time I go to the casino, I will be sure to bring a stack of chips back home with me to be able to practice and I’ve bookmarked your page for that purpose!

Thank you for making this available. I read your post on the RGP forum.

Because of Jack’s problem, I found out that the videos had a problem with the index in the videos. I fixed that last night. Haven’t heard back from Jack yet if it solved his problem. If anyone is having problems, please get me as much information as possible (error messages, program you are attempting to view the videos with, etc) and send me an email. I’ll do my best to get a solution.

The video’s are still not working…

Also, the drop and twirl….you are doing it wrong…

hold the three chips between your thumb and index finger…about 1/2 inch from the tip of the finger…pull the middle chip down slightly with your middle finger…extend your ring finger to right about where your thumb is holding the chip and slide the middle chip out. the middle chip should be between you index and ring fingers now…using your middle finger, spin the chip then put it back in….

this way is a LOT easier and this is how they do it on TV.

I know that I do the twirl different. It’s a variation of what they do on TV. I found this way to be a lot easier because I didn’t have to keep one of the fingers out of the way. To each his own… :-)

I’ve spent a while looking around the net for other chip trick tutorials but this site is by far the best. I found one site that had screenshots of Dutch Boyd performing the chip twirl, but the videos here are really helpful. Seeing the tricks in action helped me catch on quicker and see what the descriptions actually meant. Thanks.

Yeah the videos don’t even work with the DivX Codec. How worthless. It would be nice if someone would learn to encode a video.

  15. Posted January 23, 2004 at 8:18 am | Permalink

I’m willing to help you out Nate to get them to work, but that kind of attitude doesn’t help! Last time I checked, this is a free site…

If you can give me some information on what type of errors you are gettting, I’ll be happy to help out.

These tips and videos are great! Could you please post a video and some explanation of you doing the 4 and 5 chip shuffle! That would be really helpful.

  18. Posted February 4, 2004 at 12:11 am | Permalink

Thanks John, it’s good to know people are benefiting. The 4 and 5 chip shuffle is exactly the same as when you are using 3 chips per stack. It just takes practice, practice, and more practice. Don’t try to move up to more chips until you can do the previous amount almost every time.

 sweet. I tried a competitor site first (21ace.com or something like that), but his techniques for the flip and the twirl were a different than yours (his twirl has no pinky, his flip does). I spent 2 days trying to figure out how to do them his way, then I found your site and was able to pick up on them much quicker and easier. thanks

nice page, the shuffle is a pretty solid tutorial, but the chip twirl isn’t.

Check out 21ace.com for the proper chip twirl, without the pinky its much easier. took me one day to do well.

Perfect for a poker playing, video game addict, inside junkie like myself. We’ve been having a few $20 tournies and I am the BOMB :!: thanks to my poker chips and tricks. Had to find a non ebay site to get chips shipped up here  Great site and keep up the good work.

This site is very helpful…because of you and like 2 hours of straight watching your videos while I mess around with about 5-8 or so of my clay chips (a home set for myself and roomies in college) I’ve learned a lot. I can do everything that I had trouble with before a little bit better. Thanks for posting the videos too, luckily for me I have DIVx. I see some peeps don’t.

Awesome website, and FREE !! I can’t believe people actually:lol: say “you’re doing it wrong”. Gee, can’t wait till I can do it wrong ! Sure, there are other ways to perform some of the tricks, but isn’t that what makes the different styles a bonus for those of us that want to learn them ? Just find out which way works best for you.

You’re videos are by far the best I’ve seen. Thanks for offering this site and shame on any of those that come here and complain.
