My full name is Nicholas Paul Momrik, but I go by Nick. I was born the day after Christmas (12/26) in 1979 to Paul and Jane. I have a sister, Heather, who is two years younger than me and a brother, Isaac who is about seven and a half years younger. They all add up to make a great family
I grew up in Rogers City, MI and graduated from Rogers City High School in 1998 as one of four valedictorians with a 4.0 GPA. After high school I went on to attend Saginaw Valley State University, where I graduated in May of 2002 with a 3.976 GPA and a B.S. in Computer Science, minoring in Computer Information Systems. On February 4th, 2002 (before graduation) I was hired full-time to work as a Help Desk Analyst for the SVSU Information Technology Services Support Center. In January of 2007 I moved to a new position managing all of the software and imaging of lab computers. My title was Microlab Technology Specialist. In March of 2008 I took a dream job as Happiness Engineer for Automattic and I love it.
Some of my hobbies include movies, Xbox, web design, poker, golf, and biking. During the Michigan summers I golf as much as possible, but also enjoy roller-blading, basketball, volleyball, biking, and running. I can’t stand the cold of the Michigan winters, so I don’t do many outdoor winter activities.
I would like to move out to California some day, but I was tired of renting, so in January of 2007 I bought a house in Saginaw. I’ll most likely be staying in the area for at least a few more years.
As far as other plans for the future…my door is always open and swings both ways.
About MtDewVirus
During my freshman year of college (98-99) was became interested in computers. I was majoring in CS and would eventually change my minor to CIS, so that I could take as many computer classes as I could. I bought my own laptop and the Internet was making it’s way into our everyday lives. One of the technologies that emerged and become very popular was Instant Messaging. My original screen name had been “cssvsu”, which was lame. Since I was an Internet and computer junkie, I figured I needed a new identity, or handle as it is more commonly referred to by geeks (think Hackers).
Of course my handle would need some reference to computers in it, especially since all of my friends thought I hacked into their accounts and computers all the time. I decided to use the word virus. That’s too easy and too short though. Since I was a kid, I’ve always had a thirst for Mountain Dew. Once I entered college, it became an addiction. I started buying it by the case at Sam’s Club and would go through a case or two each week. When you’re a beginning Computer Science student and have never touched computer programming, you tend to have some very long nights on the computer. The Dew helped me stay awake more times than I care to count. I decided to also use Mountain Dew in the handle somehow. MountainDewVirus was way too long and funny looking, so I decided to use a shortened version. I’ve been known as MtDewVirus in chat rooms, forums, and all over the Internet ever since.
To this day, I still love Mountain Dew, but I have rid myself of the addiction and no longer get headaches if I miss my daily dosage. In fact, I only drink a few pops each month now.
After I had come up with MtDewVirus, I realized that it can also be a term for the effect the drink has on people and the addiction that it commonly causes.
Are you addicted? If so, then you have been infected by the MtDewVirus!
