Duke vs. North Carolina today. #2 vs. #3. Definitely one of my sports holidays.

Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich

“Pistol” Pete Maravich was the greatest college basketball player to ever play the game. The “Pistol” was a guard and he averaged over 40 points a game throughout college before there was ever a 3 point line. He had a great shot and actually made a lot of shots which would have easily been worth [...]

Former Duke Players Recognized As Good Sports

Luol Deng, who played a year of college basketball for Duke University, was awarded the NBA sportsmanship award. Of the 5 other divisional winners for the award, Shane Battier and Elton Brand also played for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils. Three out of six isn’t too bad!

What is a "Hoya"?

While watching Georgetown during March Madness this year, the question came about their nickname and “What is a Hoya?” We thought it might be some type of bulldog, but after looking it up, I don’t quite feel so stupid for not knowing what a Hoya actually is. No one really knows.

Michigan Basketball Will Rise

With John Beilein coming to coach the University of Michigan, maybe we can get excited about something other than football again. He did a great job at West Virginia.

If It Ain't Rough, It Ain't Right

The Detroit Pistons once again showed their toughness last night, winning game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Miami Heat still hold a lead in the series at 3-2, but the pressure is now on them to win game 6 on their home court. Everyone knows the Miami doesn’t want to end up in [...]

Marching On

I love the month of March for two reasons. March Madness and the coming of warmer Michigan weather.
The month of March is heaven for college basketball fans and NCAA bball just happens to be my favorite sport to watch. The teamwork, intensity, atmosphere, and everything about the game draws me in. I’ve already been tuned [...]

ESPNU Full Circle: UNC vs. Duke

See Saturday’s UNC vs. Duke game from all angles brought to you by ESPN.

A Sporting Thanksgiving

As posted previously, I attended a few professional sports events over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last Wednesday (Nov. 23) my parents left Rogers City bright and early. I’m not sure why they came down so early, but I wasn’t too happy that they interrupted my Xbox 360 time since I had just hooked it up the [...]

Ranked at the Top

The Blue Devils are ranked #1 in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll. Go Duke!

Swish

Can you make the shot?

Nike Air Go

The Nike Air Go was my favorite basketball shoe of all-time. They were much lighter than any other basketball shoe I ever owned. If the site I linked to sold size 14s I think I’d order a pair.

Magical Madness

Last night #2 North Carolina beat top ranked Illinois 75-70 in the NCAA Championship game. UNC led by 13 at half and was up by as much as 15 in the 2nd half, but Illinois fought back to make for an exciting finish to the best March Madness in history.
Words can’t even describe how special [...]

Round 1

With the first round of the 2005 NCAA tournament completed, I couldn’t have asked for better games. I knew it was going to be a great year for March Madness, but didn’t know it was going to be so special. I won’t go into too much detail because anyone who cares would be watching the [...]

Blue March

My favorite college basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils, won the ACC tournament today for the 6th time in the last 7 years (lost the title game in OT last year). What’s remarkable about the win is that they didn’t make a field goal for the final 11 minutes of the game, until Sheldon Williams [...]

Lack of Personal Updates

You may have noticed a lack of personal updates here at the MDV. Seriously, there really hasn’t been much exciting going on, but here’s what I’ve been up to the last couple of days.
